For safety's sake, don't hesitate to act on these warning signs. An underinflated tire can not only be very dangerous to drive on, it can also prematurely damage the tire's tread and structural wall, resulting in having to replace it. If so, take advantage of the area's most competitive pricing on tire repairs by coming to see us or scheduling an appointment today!

Tire Balancing

From the point of purchase, your tires are engineered to be in balance, however, minor imperfections in the tire's material, coupled with the imperfections in your car's wheel can sometimes cause vibration at higher speeds and in extreme cases, loud noise and wobbling. To remedy any potential wheel balance issues, Towne Toyota Service Center in Ledgewood, NJ uses dynamic wheel balancing that rotates your wheels at a high speed, simulating normal highway driving and detects any imbalance in the wheel and tire mass. Small weights are then attached to your wheel to counter act the imbalance, resulting in a smooth ride at all speeds. All new tire purchases are dynamically balanced to ensure optimal driving performance. Occasionally, older tires can become imbalanced due to uneven wear or perhaps some minor damage to the wheel itself, causing vibration. If the tire is still within manufacturers tread-wear tolerance and/or your wheel isn't excessively damaged, Towne Toyota Service Center can balance and rotate your tires to possibly fix this condition. It is an inexpensive and easy way of eliminating a symptom.

Tire Rotation

As you drive, constant contact with road surfaces causes your tires' tread to wear down over time. Depending on where your tire is positioned, it could experience more wear than the other tires, for example, front tires typically wear more quickly than the rear tires due to greater friction and stress while turning. In order to keep one or two tires from wearing out before the others, tire manufacturers suggest that they should be rotated regularly, ideally with every oil change (approximately every 3,000 to 6,000 miles). Tire rotation involves removing your wheels from their current position and reinstalling them to another position on your car in order to distribute the wear and tear on the treads, prolonging the life of the full set of tires. Typically, your front tires would be moved straight to the rear on the same side of the car, and your rear tires would be moved to the front on the opposite side of the car (ie: the driver-side rear tire would be repositioned to the passenger-side front). This is one of the easiest and cost-effective ways of caring for your tire purchase and should not be neglected. Check our Service Specials and schedule your next appointment for service and don't forget to always ask for your tire rotation!

Wheel Alignment

Ensuring that your car's wheels are properly aligned goes a long way in prolonging your tire's lifespan. Wheel alignment involves adjusting your car's suspension in order to ensure that your wheels and tires are exactly parallel to each other and perfectly perpendicular to the ground. Misalignment can cause a wheel to contact the road at a skewed angle, causing one side of the tread to wear prematurely, resulting in having to replace the tire before its expected tread-wear lifespan is complete. Wheels can become misaligned over time, or as a result of rough road conditions or even hitting a pothole. A wheel misalignment can sometimes cause your car to pull to one side of the road to the other. However, this is not always the case. Misalignment isn't always detectable by the driver and should be checked periodically to ensure maximum tire tread life. When purchasing new tires, you should ALWAYS have a wheel alignment performed to protect your tire purchase.
