Miraculous Toyota Tundra Drives 1 Million Miles with Original Engine

Toyota makes notoriously dependable vehicles. Just look up lists and rankings of most reliable vehicles, and models that hold their value the longest into high mileage, and you'll see Toyota crop up near the top time after time.

Ledgewood, Hackettstown, Randolph, Rockaway, Budd Lake, and Dover drivers who are looking for a truck that will last might be interested in a news item from earlier this May. Victor Sheppard of Houma, Louisiana drives his 2007 Toyota Tundra to North Dakota, Wyoming, and Virginia on a regular basis for his job. He averages 125,000 miles per year.

This year, the odometer read out 999,999 miles -- the highest it can go.

According to Sheppard, not much on his truck has needed replacing, save for routine maintenance, the timing belt, and a few minor parts. "My truck looks great, and, except for a few little dents, it's almost like new," he says. "Even the seats look just as they were when I bought it. They're not as clean, of course, but they're not busted or worn out."

On May 11, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. traded Sheppard a brand-new Tundra for his million-mile machine.

"Having a million-mile truck in as pristine condition as this one with original parts is a truly rare find," says Toyota Chief Truck Engineer Mike Sweers. "Our team plans to tear down the entire truck, bumper-to-bumper, top-to-bottom to evaluate how the quality and safety we designed, engineered and built into the Tundra has held up to over one-million miles of real-world driving and help us continue providing ever-better vehicles for our customers."
