The Grand Highlander comes standard with a 2.4-liter turbocharged I-4 engine that produces 265 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The Grand Highlander also offers two available hybrid powertrain options. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid powertrain produces horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque, while a 2.4-liter turbo I-4 Hybrid MAX engine produces 362 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. The engines are paired with a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, while available all-wheel drive provides exceptional traction. A Grand Highlander with the Hybrid Max powertrain can tow up to 5,000 pounds.

Safety Features

The Grand Highlander comes standard with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of safety features. Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 includes:

• Forward collision warning with pedestrian detection: Alerts you if the system detects a potential collision.
• Forward automatic emergency braking: Automatically applies the brakes if you do not respond to a forward collision warning.
• Lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist: Alert you if the vehicle shows signs of unintentionally drifting out of the lane, and provides corrective steering if needed.
• Automatic high-beam headlights: Turns on the high beams when necessary, and turns them off when the system detects oncoming vehicles in the opposite lane.
