What's New For 2024
For the 2024 model year, the Toyota Corolla is a carryover model, so its design, features, and engine are the same as last year. That said, there is one new addition to the Corolla, the return of the Corolla Nightshade Edition. The Nightshade Edition is an appearance package that adds a black roof and vented sport wings to the hybrid model. And bronze wheels and dark badging to the sedan.
Performance
There are two powertrains for the Toyota Corolla: a gas-powered engine and a hybrid. The gas-powered model is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder to produce 169 horsepower and 151 lb.-ft torque. While the hybrid uses a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor to produce 121 horsepower.
According to the EPA, front-wheel drive hybrids earn an estimated 50 mpg in the city and 43 mpg on the highway. While all-wheel drive hybrids are rated for 47 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway. Comparatively, the nonhybrid model earns an estimated 41 mpg highway.
Design
From the outside, the Toyota Corolla may look like your typical hatchback or sedan, but the interior is anything but. With a streamlined dashboard and soft-touch materials, the Corolla is comfortable and easily accessible. Combine that with ambient interior lighting, dual-zone climate control, and heated front seats, and you have one great car.
As for its cargo area, the Corolla hatchback has the most space, offering 18 cubic feet of room behind its back seat. With the new Enhanced Cargo Space option, you can expand that area by six cubic feet by replacing the spare tire with a tire repair kit. And if you opt for the sedan, there are only 13 cubes of trunk volume for all your items.
Technology
Every Corolla model comes standard with an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration. Upgrade to a higher trim, though, and you'll receive an upgraded driver information display, power-adjustable driver's seat, heated seats, and a wireless charging pad.
Trims
There are three trims available for the Toyota Corolla:
LE: Automatic climate control, Eight-inch touchscreen, Remote keyless entry
SE: 18-inch dark gray alloy wheels, Sportier exterior trim accents, Steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
XSE: LED headlights and accent lighting, Sunroof, Synthetic leather upholstery, Heated front seats.
Safety
The entire Corolla lineup offers a host of standard driver-assistance technology, which includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and a lane-keeping system. In the highest trim, the XSE, a blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert becomes available.
